Setup

Housecall Pro has a simple five step setup process and then you can start to schedule jobs or add employees right away. After you’re done with the basic setup, you can continue to setup additional features as you see fit.

ServiceTitan and FieldEdge have a longer setup and onboarding process after you sign up. The implementation process will take a few weeks to a month or so since data conversion/transfer, training, and support as you setup features and functions take some time.

Housecall Pro has a 14-day free trial and no credit card is necessary to use the trial. FieldEdge and ServiceTitan don’t have free trials, but you can schedule a live demo tailored to your business with one of their specialists.

Housecall Pro Setup

Housecall Pro has five basic steps to setup your account. After that, you can still turn on other features by going to “My Apps”.

To set up additional features such as custom text messages, email and postcard marketing, or to connect your Quickbooks Online account, go to “My Apps” tab.

FieldEdge Setup

FieldEdge doesn’t have a have a free trial to look at the setup process, but typically there’s a five week implementation plan that includes getting your database setup, converting and transferring data, training for you and your staff, and support as you begin to go live with the platform.

ServiceTitan Setup

ServiceTitan also doesn’t have a free trial for you to use before signing. ServiceTitan is not public with their setup and onboarding process, but usually software companies like them have an implementation plan with support, training, and data transferring and conversion.

Housecall Pro

Housecall Pro’s mobile app has five tabs at the bottom of the screen: dashboard, schedule, messages, customers, and more. The mobile app is designed to allow you to run your day-to-day operations from out in the field. For additional such as marketing automation or reporting, you need to log into the web portal.

FieldEdge

FieldEdge’s mobile app has a homepage with your work orders and timesheets. When you open up the navigation, you have six tabs: Clock In/Out, Work Orders, Customers, Price Book, Supervisor, and Settings.

ServiceTitan

ServiceTitan’s mobile app is optimized for tablets. The larger screen is useful for your technicians to show quotes, invoices, images, service agreements and other details to your customers. However, you can still download the app onto your mobile device.

ServiceTitan and FieldEdge both have extremely robust feature sets and are geared towards larger service businesses, particularly in the HVAC, plumbing, electrical in both residential and commercial service and even new construction.

Housecall Pro’s feature set is designed to give you the fundamentals of what you need to manage and grow your business and is geared towards the smaller companies between one and twenty employees.

Housecall Pro Features

Housecall Pro has a wide range of useful features to help you save time, get more jobs, get paid faster, and give your customers the great experience they need.

Housecall Pro’s major features include: scheduling, dispatching, estimating/invoicing, time tracking with timesheets, text/email notifications, email/postcard marketing, reviews, online booking, employee GPS Tracking, recurring service agreements, customized reporting, payments, instapay, and Quickbooks Online integration.

Other integrations include: Broadly, NiceJob, Convert, Google Calendar, Zapier, Fundbox and Yelp. Soon to come are employee expense cards, consumer financing, and additional integrations.

Pros: Housecall Pro is very user-friendly and it's easy to understand and learn to use. There are also features beyond keeping the business organized. The marketing features such as reviews, postcard/email marketing, and online booking for your website, Facebook page, and Yelp all help you grow your business directly. Housecall Pro also integrates with various companies that specialize in website building, generating reviews, business lending, and even Yelp for online booking directly from their marketplace.

Cons: Housecall Pro only operates in the US and Canada. It lacks the ability to create custom forms/checklists, job costing, inventory tracking, chemical tracking, and equipment management. Quickbooks Online is the only accounting software being integrated at the moment.

FieldEdge Features

FieldEdge is designed to give you practically everything you need to manage and run your business whether you do residential and/or commercial service. They also have functions to provide what you need to manage larger projects if you do new construction as well as service.

FieldEdge’s major features:

  • Scheduling and dispatching with phone integration and location mapping.

  • Customer management with customer history, equipment tracking, and pictures/attachments.

  • Real time Quickbooks integration with advanced inventory management.

  • Service agreement management with automated renewals.

  • Dashboard and performance reports with company performance, technician and CSR performance, and marketing profitability.

On the mobile side they cover:

  • Mobile CRM with custom forms, equipment history and work order history.

  • Quotes and invoicing with customer notifications.

  • Mobile dispatching with dispatching on-the-go and time tracking.

  • Visual price presentation with recommended add-ons and customizable good-better-best options.

Pros: FieldEdge has dozens of features you can use to take your business to the next level. The features can track, manage, and report on important business functions to give you the data you need to make better decisions and streamline your business. FieldEdge was the first company to create Quickbooks Integration and it happens in real-time unlike many competitors.

Cons: The user interface and mobile app are not as user friendly and modern as ServiceTitan or Housecall Pro. Depending on the size of your business and your particular needs, you may not need most of the features provided and will need to grow into the system over time.

ServiceTitan Features

ServiceTitan provides a comprehensive set of tools and features that cover various facets of the business. They’re just as robust as FieldEdge, but is a newer company so their interface is more user-friendly.

ServiceTitans major features cover:

  • Dispatching with intelligent schedule optimization, customer information with job history, and call recordings

  • Scheduling with ability to queue technicians for new jobs and use custom tags, call booking with customizable job details forms, automated caller identification, and call recording.

  • Marketing with lead tracking, heat maps, unique phone number creation and ROI tracking.

  • Reporting with company trends, transactions, technician scorecards, and CSR scorecards.

  • Mobile app with customer database, recorded calls, job histories, visual estimates, presentation mode, and check and credit card capture.

  • Financing with Greensky.

  • Customer experience features such as appointment reminders, ability to send/receive texts, and technician tracking for customers to see on a map.

  • Quickbooks and Intacct integration for accounting.

Pros: ServiceTitan has managed to provide a robust set of dozens of features for contractors no matter how big the company is all while remaining user-friendly and intuitive to learn and use.

Cons: If you run a service business on the smaller side, you may not need all the features that ServiceTitan provides. The mobile app is designed to be used on tablets rather than phones.

Housecall Pro has three packages you can choose from pricing is available on the website. ServiceTitan and FieldEdge do not have their pricing available online on their website and they give you a quote when you do a live demo with a specialist.

Housecall Pro’s pricing ranges from $39/month to $199/month and varies based on additional features and users. Field and office users do not differ in price.

If you pay monthly, you pay 20% more and the plans range from $49/month up to $249/month.
