It can be easy to feel overwhelmed while looking for a mobile clock app for your employees. That’s why we’ve rounded up 20 of the best time-card calculator apps, time-card apps with GPS tracking, and traditional time-clock systems for your consideration.

Reviews

  • Top Favorable Review “Love HCP! Before starting my own garage door service company, I wanted to find an app that would handle everything so I didn’t have to use 20 different apps to run my business. I looked at about 75% of the products out there and was losing hope. Then, I got a tip from a friend about HouseCall Pro. Their starter version was free to use, so there was no downside to giving it a try. It’s been everything I’d hoped for and more. After about 3 months of using the free version, I’ve upgraded graded twice. Customer info, price list, employee tracking, invoicing with QuickBooks and CC processing. Sure, there have been a few bumps along the way, but small issues that have been fixed quickly (usually than easy chat feature) by their support team. Absolutely a great app for the home service professional. I get kudos from a majority of my customers for the info text the system sends to keep them involved and up to date.”

Reviews

  • Top Critical Review “this app needs some mayor improving on the system of clocking out. I'm ready to go home, clock out at the job site. come back the next day and it shows I'm still clocked in. I don’t know if its the system over here or the app itself. Please fix the problem. I don’t want the company thinking I’m trying to steal hours/money and get in big trouble with them please and thank you.”

  • Track time and expenses

  • Keep track of your team’s time

  • Make sure your projects are healthy

  • Take the pain out of getting paid

  • Plan for the future

Reviews

  • Top Favorable Review “Love this tool I’ve been using Harvest now for four years of the six years my business has been open. I think it is a fabulous tool. I truly believe the people who developed the software really did try to think of everything. Timekeeping is extremely easy, running reports for invoices is a breeze, running monthly, quarterly, yearly and custom reports for a range of project tracking and accounting is also a breeze. The expense feature took me a little time to figure out, but once I did, it’s extremely easy to use. The retainer feature is my only complaint, but the tool does provide a workaround if needed. I’ve also had to reach out to Harvest a couple of times to figure something out, but they have been very quickly responsive, informative and very courteous. I really can’t say enough good things about Harvest. When we hire people, we give them a 30-minute training on the tool and our time- and expense-keeping policies. Within 15 minutes they have it down. It also has a lot of customizable options, as well. You really can make this tool fit your specific business. I tremendously recommend it.”

  • Top Critical Review “I would say I love the app, but it deleted the data after the trial account period was over. There should be a feature to notify users when the trial period is about to over then the users might consider backing up for the data or might even decide to purchase.”

Reviews

  • Top Favorable Review“Awesome app with great functionality and support! We searched for an affordable and efficient time clock system for months. We needed something user-friendly for employees and with advanced functionality for admins. After putting money into more expensive options that ultimately did not meet expectations, we gave this app a try and plan to use it for the long haul!”

  • Top Critical Review “A decent app when it works. We have issues with the time clock not remembering or knowing that a user has previously clocked in, especially from a different device. Very frustrating. Tech support seems to think we are the only organization having this issue and has no solution. As I type this, I would change my rating from a 3 to a 2.”

  • Frictionless time tracking

  • Reports, re-imagined

  • A bigger and better timeline

  • Hours for teams

  • Tracking hours on any device

Reviews

  • Top Favorable Review“Best time tracker app for freelance I’ve tried quite a few time tracking apps to record time I work on different projects and this app handles multiple tasks/projects the best. I can work on something for half hour, jump to a different project/client and do that for an hour, jump back to the previous project and as long as I remember to start the timers it works very well. Additionally, the timeline is super easy to use and it’s simple to adjust time blocks of work as you’re working throughout the day. I know it sounds crazy, but it’s remarkable how many other apps don’t nail a basic necessity like this. The developers have done an outstanding job and I have but one singular gripe: the color palette. It could really use some punch! I’m sorry for being picky but pastel isn’t my thing. If you guys could allow us to assign our own colors to projects that would be awesome! Thanks!”

  • Top Critical Review “I installed the app to track my time throughout the day. When I first opened the app, I wanted to add that I woke up at 9:07 AM. So, I set a time slot for wake up time at 9:07 AM. (It was currently 10:40 AM). So, the app automatically set up a 1 hour and 40min window for waking up. When I tried to adjust the wake-up time; I had to use a second time slot for what I was doing from 9:07 AM until 10:40 AM. That was difficult to do. During the process of trying to figure out how to add another time slot; I realized that you only get THREE FREE TIME SLOTS and you have to PURCHASE additional time slots! How can you test the app with only three free time slots? The app also signed me up as part of a TEAM when I had selected tracking time for individual productivity. Then, somewhere in-between uninstalling and reinstalling the app; ( I had uninstalled then reinstalled in order to rate the app), it said that my password was incorrect and I needed to create a new password....it was a big mess from there and I have now WASTED more than 2HOURS trying to add a productivity app that did not work!”

hourstrracker app

Features

  • Never forget to clock in again

  • Organize projects using tags

  • Declutter using filters

  • Manage jobs in a few taps

  • Flexible export options

Reviews

  • Top Favorable Review “I don’t usually take time out of my day to review apps, even the ones I really like. But, I have got to say that I am more pleased with the functionality of this app than any other I have purchased - across the board. I am an attorney with many different clients and need to record everything I do every day for each. Most commercial, legal-oriented timekeeping software is very expensive and more than I need as a solo practitioner. This app allows me to clock in and clock out on my phone wherever I am, which results in an extremely accurate reflection of what I did during the day. Exporting the results to an Excel spreadsheet allows me to keep a permanent record of my time, down to the minute, which is perfect for those times when a client may question a particular bill later on. I know exactly how much time I spent on a phone call or preparing a brief or other documents, and it is very easy to go back and check. In Excel, of course, I can then sort by date and client, and prepare an invoice with a simple cut and paste. The app has other bells and whistles that I don’t need, but, for the price, I couldn’t be happier.”

  • Top Critical Review “Worked great until the last few updates. Can no longer pause, resume, or stop work from notifications window and no longer keeps real time in the notifications window. I now have to open the app to check hours worked and pause jobs. Very disappointed in these changes.”

hubstaff app screeenshot

Features

  • Online timesheets and invoicing

  • Payroll software

  • Project budgeting and productivity measurement

  • Employee scheduling and monitoring

  • Geofencing and GPS tracking

Reviews

  • Top Favorable Review“Where have you been all my life? I’m an independent contractor, software consultant, and I perform lots of different projects with multiple tasks for clients and sometimes... ok all the time, I have difficulty in billing because I’m trying to remember what I did. Now there are lots of products on the market, but I literally was up and running within a few days! It’s very intuitive, and the start and stop for different projects and tasks saves me a huge amount of time plus I get to add notes! Now when I bill, I just import the time period, day, days, week, or weeks or even month that I want to bill for and boom I have an invoice to send to my client! The best part is that I know what my cost and bill rate is so I can see my margin all the time! Best thing that happened to me this year! Thanks, guys!”

  • Top Critical Review “While the desktop app performs super, the mobile app crashes a lot. In many cases, the time logged by mobile also didn't reflect on web console thus making me lose my money.”

  • Streamlined implementation and flexible punch-in options

  • Quick and easy access to your data

  • Job costing and labor distribution

  • Manager dashboard updated in real time

Reviews

  • Top Favorable Review “I love this app in conjunction with Paychex Flex it tells me how many hours I have it rounds to the nearest quarter of an hour so if I show up 7 minutes early that means they start paying me 15 minutes early if I stay over more than 7 minutes I get paid until 1:15 so that's an extra half-hour a day just by 7 minutes in the morning and 7 minutes over in the afternoon it comes out to two hours and 15 minutes a week extra.”

  • Top Critical Review “Worst app on my phone. This app has never opened on the first try. Ever. Every now and then there will be a baffling update where they rename lunch or the background color changes, but you know what never changes? Having to open and close the app, sometimes two or three times, every morning, twice at lunch, and evening. There’s a new feature that logs you out every ten days, so sometimes you get to close the app three times, then enter your info again, which is awesome. Do you like talking to the people in HR? We’ll get used to talking to them all the time if your job is strict about clock-ins. I generally start trying to open it 3-4 minutes before I need to punch in or out, which is a super efficient use of my time. Luckily, if you have this app you probably have no choice because your job requires it, so at least there’s that.”

Sinc

Features

  • Detailed reports in one click

  • Easily add and edit shifts

  • Add staff feedback in seconds

  • Monitor employees with GPS tracking

  • Allows for a safety hotline

Reviews

  • Top Favorable Review “My company has been using Sinc from the very beginning, and it’s been a great experience. For tracking employee hours it works perfectly, it lets employees clock in on their smartphones and even has some added features like location tracking so you can see where they’ve been. Being able to sort through the weeks (and set the start of the week whichever day I want), and sort by “individual” or “all” employees has made my life much easier, and come payroll time I know I can always count on it. It also helps that the employees can submit edits when they forget to clock in and I just have to go in and approve them. Best part? Customer service. The first time I had an issue, I received a response within 20 minutes and they updated the app to solve the issue within a few days, I’ve never dealt with such a dedicated team. From what I can see, all the bugs have been worked out and I have not had any issues.”

  • Top Critical Review “Contains potentially good features but not laid out for user in a logical manner! SHOULDN'T not have been published just yet. Uninstalling and moving on to another app.”

Timecamp

Reviews

  • Top Favorable Review“Great app. I am only using the free version so it is a bit limited. But for being free yet does what I needed to for my individual use. I see the upgrade options would be very useful but at this point or not necessary for me. A great app with options that are very helpful.”

  • Top Critical Review “Timers are buggy. I open the app and it says a timer has been running since exactly midnight of the current day. Additionally, I close and come back and my timer has stopped. Beyond frustrating. Which is too bad, because the reporting works pretty well.”

timely app

Features

  • Automatic time tracking

  • Project time management

  • Team time management

  • Dozens of integrations

  • New features added frequently

Reviews

  • Top Favorable Review “Great time-track software This is a fantastic time-tracking app, both for business and personal use. It's attractive, fun and easy to use, and also tracks monetary value. Timely is very intuitive, syncs flawlessly between Mac, iPhone, Apple Watch and iPad. I love using my Watch as a controller. The app uses a simple overlay of planned and actual time, and a quick swipe makes it very easy to manually adjust either time (in case you forgot to turn off the timer, or need to add an entry after the fact). The Memory and history features make it easy to see where your time is going, and the integrated online site adds even more useful features. I've tried many time-tracking apps, and this is by far my favorite, and the one I recommend to others.”

  • Top Critical Review Watch out! This program costs $168 PER USER. If for example, you want to use it to keep track of the time of caregivers for an elderly parent, and there are three of them, that's more $500 per year. So if you set it up to try it out, and you forget to cancel before the free trial ends (which happens to us all sometimes), they will charge you the full amount for all your users for the year--even if you never actually used the app. They just want to take advantage of you and don't care if their app is useful to you. Customer support should be called customer harm.

Reviews

  • Top Favorable Review “The ease of control as the admin-I can see everyone's entries and edit where necessary. The mobile feature-my foremen can enter their time whenever it is convenient for them and I see their updates immediately. Producing reports are so easy-it has cut down the sorting through our many Excel sheets to add up our project times by 1000%. We are a small company and did not want to sign up for expensive construction PM programs. This does the job for us without the high expense. I also use the reports feature to calculate payroll hours...instantly-this has also saved me many hours. +Chat support is instant and they are very helpful and knowledgeable.”

  • Top Critical Review“It was not easy to navigate, we ended up going back to ADP because of our needs It was OK. Maybe for smaller companies, it will work better.”

Reviews

  • Top Favorable Review “Timestation is a great addition to any team! Our robotics team uses Time Station to assist in keeping track of our members' hours spent in the lab. It is very easy to set up and implement. Our team is really thankful for the ease of access and reliability that the app provides. It helps our members get in and out the door a lot faster. Our team has over fifty members and due to that large number, Time Station has significantly reduced the time spent on manually tracking and calculating each team member's hours. It is quick, convenient, easy and accurate. We highly recommend Time Station for any organization or group of people that require timekeeping. We will definitely continue using Time Station for many years to come. Disclaimer: We received a Time Station sponsorship and received the software for free.”

  • Top Critical Review “It seems though this app has some glitches with the GPS accuracy. When it takes repetitive attempts to sign in due to unable to locate, what's the use? And you have multiple complaints of this wasting precious time when an employer is expecting employees to punch in and then someone has to go in and manually enter time for employees. TIME being the key word here. Fix your app please, people's pay depends on it.”

Features

  • Hassle-free time tracking

  • Income and expense reporting

  • Import and export data in an instant

  • Syncs across platforms

  • Integrates easily with other tools

Reviews

  • Top Favorable Review“Simple Productivity Tracker The free version provides great multi-platform use for someone like me who doesn’t own a freelancing business and, as such, doesn’t need the capability to export billing documents or whatever to receive pay. I just use it to track how much time I spend studying, completing homework, and writing reports for each of my classes so that I have an overview and graph of what subjects I focus the most on. Seeing the numbers of hours worked on each subject helps motivate me to continue to keep my bar graphs high, and the timer function is much easier than imputing your own time into something like Google Sheets if you want to see graphs of your productivity. The ease of use is superb and simplicity of the app’s aesthetics is pleasing to the eye as well. It doesn’t look cheesy and that’s another big plus. There are also browser extensions and desktop applications for people who want to track their time offline. And the app itself also helps you track your workflow without a connection, then syncs when you’re connected to the internet. A+ job!”

  • Top Critical Review “This app USED TO BE very good....however, ever since the forced upgrade to the newer version of the app, it SUCKS. constant crashes, failure of the app screen to refresh, forcing me to have to kill the app & restart MANY MULTIPLE times a day. I really wish developers would stop focusing on trying to make things look "pretty", and focus more on making sure the product actually WORKS.”

Reviews

  • Top Favorable Review “This application has revolutionized the way we clock in and out at our company has made it convenient easy and up-to-date. It provides a great platform for upper management to visually inspect where all of our employees are and have been while on work time.”

  • Top Critical Review “One star. Because I can't choose zero. This app is an Orwellian nightmare. Invasive, and requests ridiculous permissions. If you are required by your job to utilize this app, I recommend doing so on an old phone that you have wiped clean, and leave in a static location. I suspect that 15 Minutes Hate will be included in the next update. Great for megalomaniacal managers, I'm sure. Save your privacy. DO NOT PUT THIS ON YOUR PERSONAL DEVICE. You're selling your labor, not your privacy.”

  • Top Favorable Review“Works Great! We’ve been using When I Work for a while and are very happy with the service. Also happy to see an updated time clock app. Minor complaint, I think most people use numeric employee IDs, but when you tap in user ID area on this new app the keyboard starts in ABC mode instead of numbers. Again very minor, just another key to tap. But, of course, my employees have complained.”

  • Top Critical Review “Downloaded the app to be able to see the list of employees and manually clock them in and out myself upon request like my coworkers on iPhones can do. It appears the Samsung version only has the time clock feature for them to punch in their numbers. I remember having this app 1yr+ ago and was able to access more, not sure what happened here.”
