When considering which platform to use, service setup is important because it shows how user-friendly the service is and how steep the learning curve might be. Every platform offers various features, but every business owner has different priorities, and here’s where the challenge comes in. For your business, maybe it’s more important to fix the scheduling bottleneck than looking into new marketing strategies.

Generally, there are two different approaches companies take for setup.

  1. The first approach is front-loaded. You to do the heavy lifting upfront to set up integrations, add employees, import customers, and setup preferences. After that, you jump into the platform to start scheduling your first job. (Both Servicem8 and Tradify take this approach).

  2. The second approach is reversed. First, you do a quick basic setup, then you can use the app to schedule your first job right away. After that, you can set up other features and integrations as you see fit. (Housecall Pro takes this approach).

Housecall Pro has a simple five step setup. After that, you can turn on additional features or integrations by going to “My Apps”.

Tradify Setup

Tradify has nine steps in the initial setup, but you can skip any of these steps and complete them later.

First, sign up for an account by entering your name, company name, country, and password:

Servicem8’s setup is a five step process of entering company information, job settings, accounting information and more.

The mobile app is designed to give you all the necessary information you need when you and your team are out in the field to complete jobs, schedule, dispatch, invoice, and take payments. You also have access to your customer history/database, invoices, estimates, and jobs.

Tradify

Housecall Pro, Tradify, and Servicem8 all cover the basics of scheduling, dispatching, invoicing and payments. The big differences are the additional features and integrations.

Both Servicem8 and Tradify’s feature set is made to streamline and organize your operations at every level.

Housecall Pro took a different approach. Instead of continuing to add incremental value by going deeper into organizing your business, Housecall Pro added other features to help with different areas of the business such as growing revenue and improving your customer experience.

Housecall Pro has a wide range of features to benefit different areas of your service business. This software is designed to help you save time, get more jobs, get paid faster, and give your customers a better experience.

Housecall Pro’s major features include: scheduling, dispatching, estimating, invoicing, time tracking and timesheets, text/email notifications, reviews, online booking, email/postcard automation, employee GPS Tracking, recurring service agreements, customized reporting, payment processing, instapay and integration with Quickbooks Online for accounting.

Other integrations include: Yelp, Convert, NiceJob, Broadly, Google Calendar, Zapier, and Fundbox. Soon to come includes employee expense cards, consumer financing,  and a few other integrations.

Pros: Housecall Pro’s mobile app is easy to understand and simple to use. The marketing features like online booking, reviews, postcard/email automation help you get more jobs and stay in touch with customers to drive repeat business. These features also integrate with a wide range of other companies that specialize in website building through Convert, generating reviews through NiceJob and Broadly, integrating directly with Yelp for online booking and more.

Cons: Housecall Pro only operates in the US and Canada and does not have custom forms/templates to create checklists or other pdf reports. It also lacks the capability to do job costing, inventory tracking, chemical tracking, and equipment management. The only accounting software it integrates with is Quickbooks Online.

Tradify Features

Tradify’s major features include: scheduling, quoting, invoicing, time tracking, custom templates, job costing, purchase orders, a map for tracking jobs and employees, and integration with XERO, MYOB, and Quickbooks Online. Tradify also has a mobile app.

Pros: Tradify a global company. They work well in the commercial service, residential service, and construction space. They also have features that help to organize and manage your flow of purchase orders with various suppliers. Accounting integrations include XERO, MYOB, and Quickbooks Online.

Cons: Tradify doesn’t have features that drive business growth. They don’t have any features that are customer facing like custom texts/emails, online booking, review generation, or marketing automation.

Servicem8 Features

Servicem8’s major features include: scheduling, quoting, invoicing, online booking, automated communication, asset management, custom forms, job profitability, credit card, and online payments, reporting and integrations with XERO, MYOB, QBO for accounting.

Other integrations include: Mailchimp, Zapier, Workato, Deputy, and Servicem8 has an open API.

Pros: Servicem8 is globally available and has many features for tracking, organizing your business, as well as an open API. They also have features such as automated communication that can trigger texts/emails to follow up after quotes are sent, jobs are done, and reminders for unpaid invoices. Some additional tracking features include job costing, margin billing, payment terms, partial/progress invoicing and more.

Cons: Servicem8’s setup for additional features is a longer process. They don’t have many features for growing the business besides automating your customer communication.
