Setup

The setup process is important to keep in mind when deciding which software platforms to go with.

Housecall Pro, Servicem8, and Jobber all provide a basic setup so you can start to use the app right away. After the setup, it’s up to you to setup customizations, add users, or activate other features.

All three platforms offer a 14-day free trial with no credit card necessary. Each step in the setup is illustrated below with screenshots.

Housecall Pro Setup

Housecall Pro has five steps in the setup process. After that, you can still add additional features by going to “My Apps”.

Servicem8 Setup

Servicem8’s setup is a five step process of adding company information, job settings, accounting information and more.

First, you enter your company information:

Once you’re logged in, go to the dispatch board to schedule your first job by selecting the “New Job” button on the top left:

Jobber Setup

Jobber has a two-step process after you sign up to begin a basic setup.

First enter your name, company name, email, and password to sign up for an account.

Then you enter your phone number, years in business, how you heard about Jobber, company size, role in the company, and industry.

After you finish the setup, click the action button to schedule a job.

Jobber’s web portal is organized with six tabs and twelve sub-tabs on the left side of the screen:

dashboard, calendar (month, week, grid, map, list view), clients (people and properties), work (overview, requests, quotes, jobs, invoices view), reports, and timesheet.

Housecall Pro

Housecall Pro’s mobile app offers scheduling, dispatching, invoicing, payments, access to customer history, taking photos, sending messages and more. It’s organized with five tabs: dashboard, schedule, messages, customers, and more.

Servicem8’s iOS exclusive mobile app is organized with four tabs at the bottom: activity, jobs, notifications, and more. The “more” tab includes some of the tabs you can find in the web portal: invoicing, tasks, clients, staff, messages, help, and logout.

Jobber

Jobber’s mobile app is a limited version of what’s available on the web portal. It gives you access to your schedule, clients, and time sheet. The plus button lets you add a task, quote, job, expense, or client.

Housecall Pro has a vast range of features to benefit different areas of your service business. The set of features help you save time, get more jobs, get paid faster, and give your customers a better experience.

Housecall Pro’s major features include: scheduling, dispatching, estimating/invoicing, time tracking with timesheets, employee GPS Tracking, recurring service agreements, text/email notifications, reviews, email/postcard marketing, online booking, customized reporting, payments, card on file, instapay, and Quickbooks Online integration.

Other integrations include: Broadly, NiceJob, Convert, Google Calendar, Zapier, Fundbox and Yelp. Coming out soon include: employee expense cards, consumer financing, and additional integrations.

Pros: Housecall Pro is user friendly on the we-portal and mobile app. It’s easy for anyone to understand and learn to use it.

The marketing features such as automated email/postcard marketing, online booking, and reviews can all help you grow your repeat business, get more jobs online, and create more loyal customers. Housecall Pro also integrates with a wide range of other companies that specialize in website builders, generating reviews, business lending, and even Yelp to tap into their marketplace and more.

Cons: Housecall Pro only operates in the US and Canada and does not have custom forms/templates to create items like checklists or other pdf reports. Other features we currently lack include equipment management, job costing, inventory tracking, and chemical tracking. The only accounting software that integrates is Quickbooks Online.

Servicem8 Features

Servicem8’s major features include: scheduling, quoting, invoicing, online booking, automated communication, asset management, custom forms, job profitability, credit card, and online payments, reporting and integrations with XERO, MYOB, QBO for accounting.

Other integrations include: Mailchimp, Zapier, Workato, Deputy, and Servicem8 has an open API.

Pros: Servicem8 is globally available and has many features for tracking, organizing your business, as well as an open API. They also have features such as automated communication that can trigger texts/emails to follow up after quotes are sent, jobs are done, and reminders for unpaid invoices. Some additional tracking features include job costing, margin billing, payment terms, partial/progress invoicing and more.

Cons: Servicem8’s setup for additional features is a longer process. They don’t have many features for growing the business besides automating your customer communication.

Jobber Features

Jobber’s feature set is geared towards streamlining and organizing your business.

Jobbers major features include: scheduling, dispatching, invoicing/quoting, client manager and client hub, routing, QBO and XERO integration, expense tracking, time tracking and timesheets, GPS tracking, customer reminders/follow up, reporting, and chemical tracking.

Pros: Jobber does customization and tracking well. They have custom forms/fields you can use for quotes, invoices, customer information, property information and various tracking mechanisms for expenses, chemicals, and employee time tracking.

Cons: Jobber lacks features that directly help you grow revenue. The work requests from client hub does help with repeat business if your customers use it. Better insight into your business through reporting and faster payments can help with cash flow, but both features don’t contribute to finding new customers or getting more jobs online.
