Setup

Setup is important because every platform has a learning curve. Generally, there are two approaches companies take for setup:

  1. The first approach is front-loaded. You to do the heavy lifting upfront to set up integrations, add employees, and import customers. Then you start using the platform to schedule your first job.

  2. The second approach is reversed. First, you do a quick basic setup, then you jump into the app to schedule your first job right away. After that, you can setup other features and integrations as you see fit. (Both Housecall Pro and Jobber take this second approach).

Housecall Pro has a five-step basic setup process. To turn on additional features go to the “My Apps” in the web portal.

First, sign up for an account by entering your email address on the mobile app or computer.

To connect your Quickbooks Online or setup other features like email/postcard marketing or text notifications, login from the computer and go to “My Apps” tab at the top of the screen.

Jobber Setup

Jobber has a two-step set up before you can start scheduling jobs on the app.

First, you sign up for an account by entering your name, company name, email, and password.

Then you enter a phone number, years in business, how you found Jobber, company size, role in the company, and your industry.

Housecall Pro’s mobile app is organized with five tabs at the bottom: dashboard, schedule, messages, customers, and more. The mobile app gives you access to your customer history/database, invoices, estimates, and jobs. It’s designed to be used out in the field so to setup additional features, you need to use the web portal.

Jobber

Jobber’s mobile app is a simple version of the web portal for you to use out in the field. It’s organized in three tabs with your schedule, clients, and the timesheet. The plus button at the bottom right allows you to add a new task, quote, job, expense, or client. For other features or to see things in more detail, log in on the web portal.

Housecall Pro’s features include: scheduling, dispatching, estimating, invoicing, time tracking and timesheets, customizable text notifications, email/postcard marketing, reviews, online booking, employee GPS tracking, service agreements, reporting, payment processing, instapay and integration with Quickbooks Online for accounting.

Other integrations include: Convert, NiceJob, Broadly, Google Calendar, Zapier, Fundbox, and Yelp. Features coming soon include employee expense cards and a few other integrations.

Pros: Housecall Pro’s is easy to learn and use. There are many features to help you grow revenue including online booking, postcard/email automation, and reviews.

The marketing features such as online booking, reviews, postcard/email automation are all useful features to help you grow more business online and to build better relationships with customers and get more repeat business. Housecall Pro also integrates with a lot of companies that specialize in different services such as website building, generating reviews, business lending, and even Yelp.

Cons: Housecall Pro only operates in the US/Canada. Some features we lack include: custom forms/templates, job costing, inventory tracking, chemical tracking, and equipment management. The only accounting software we integrate with is Quickbooks Online.

Jobber Features

Jobber focuses on keeping your business organized and impressing your customers.

Jobbers major features include: scheduling, dispatching, quoting/invoicing, client manager, reporting, client hub, QBO, and XERO integration, expense tracking, time tracking and timesheets, routing, GPS tracking, customer reminders/follow up, and chemical tracking.

Pros: Jobber does customization and tracking well. They have custom forms/fields for quotes, invoices, customer information, property information and various tracking mechanisms for expenses, chemicals, and time tracking.

Cons: Jobber does not have a lot of features to help you directly grow and expand the business. The work requests from client hub is set up to make it easier for customers to request work from you again. Faster payments help with cash flow and reporting gives you insight on your business. These features might help with your business growth indirectly, but do not contribute to finding new customers.
